When I was a little girl one of the fun things that I can remember doing was looking in my mothers cedar chest and seeing all of her treasures! She had hand embroidered pillow cases and dish towels that were so beautiful and I always dreamed of when I would get married and have such pretty stuff to. She had a doll named Daphne that was hers when she was a little girl. She had a glass head and a soft body and she cried when you turned her over. We all like to hold her and we knew how special that she was to mother. Mother had her wedding dress in there and Daddy's army uniform..like I said "all kind of treasures". My cedar chest was a graduation gift to me from my parents when I graduated from High School, a tradition that they have carried on with their girls and one I have tried to do the same with mine.
Last week when Melanie was here visiting we "played" in my cedar chest. It has treasures too. I still have some of my embroidered dish towels from my trousseau and the beautiful pillow cases that Dorthy and Violet made for me. I have my stuffed dog "Dal" that I have had since I was a little girl that daddy bought me for Christmas. I even have Nathan's only toy he has from his childhood, it is a little soft bodied doll named "Henry". I have started to save a few things in there for the grand kids for when they get married and get to have "pretty stuff" to.

That is so fun. I used to go through my Grandma's and mom's cedar chest when I was little. When my Grandma passed away my mom made sure I got her cedar chest when they were going through her things. I even got all the treasures that were inside.
